Last Movie You Watched - 2020

I am on the knickers twisted side.
300 or more (2,000?) years old. But who cares?
I would, if I could, use language to express my actual feelings re the movie publicists,
But it would be censored. My mini-protest is to boycott the film.

Agree with you 100%
Even if the actual crew that did the job do not come forward (due to fear of prosecution) one hopes that the production company makes a large donation to EH Yes I also was disgusted by this sort of vandalism

Ooh... haven't seen that for a while. Christopher Lee.... hasn't that just been released on Bluray?
Hobbit, that's correct. I watched the blu ray from the Powerhouse / Indicator label . They have produced some cracking blu releases across several genres. If you like Westerns their Randolph Scott / Bud Boetticher box is superb. I have their Fu Manchu blu box on pre - order. Christopher camping it up and chewing the scenery !

Although being a big fan of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing i was a little underwhelmed with I , Monster. It had its moments , some great shots, lovely photography and i would encourage horror fans to watch it but i've seen them both in much better films most notably the Hammer movies.

The blu has a theatrical cut and director cut. I watched the slightly shorter theatrical one. Included amongst a lot of extras are 2 commentaries and I will rewatch them with this audio option.

Yesterday I watched " Overlord " on a major streaming service. A mixture of Lovecraft and Cronenberg during the 2nd World War. I thought this was great fun whilst sipping a couple of light ales !

Ubergeek.

Frankenstein, from my treasured Universal blu box. I watch this 2 or 3 times a year . This evening with the Christopher Wicking yak trak.

Yes: it's great. They've scrubbed up very well, and its a regular dip-in here too.

I like to watch Frankenstein back to back with Young Frankenstein. They make interesting comparisons! :)

Watched Captain Kronos, an old Hammer Horror movie written and directed by Brian Clemens (the Avengers). I remember Caroline Munro being in it, but had forgotten Ian Hendry (also the Avengers, early series) and Benedict Cumberbatch's mum were in it as well... good fun, not to be taken seriously at all... )

Also known as The Fearless Vampire Hunters, yes? Directed by some unknown called Polanski I think.

Hobbit, excuse me sir, I think you'll find it's " Froonkenshteen " ;)

What a double bill ! Young Frankenstein is a loving tribute to the Universal cycle.

Fearless Vampire Hunters (which is also worth a watch, if I remember right!) is played more for comedy; Kronos, though admittedly quite camp, does not have much deliberate humour in it.

Reading @Trollheart 's review lead me to the decision to watch Babylon 5 from the very start. I've seen this movie/pilot before, years ago, and have seen various episodes of the series in sporadic, random order, but have not followed the story.

I'll refer you to @Trollheart for the full review. I quite liked it.

So: today's viewing - the Nigel Kneale version of The Woman in Black, nicely scrubbed up on Bluray, the 96 minute pre-release version of Curse of the Demon (longer than the usual 82 minute theatrical version) also scrubbed up on Bluray, then possibly Blood on Satan's Claw (also scrubbed up on Bluray), Scary Stories to tell in the Dark (Netflix or Amazon) and a Connery to finish - either a Bond or Outland, I think.

Should keep me busy!

I Watched all his Bond films about 2 months ago.
Yes - think I mentioned it here, but I watched them all in order about 6 months ago, one a day, when lockdown started. But it is iconic. Did think about Highlander too.. but saw that not too long ago, & haven't seen Outland for a while. :)

So.... Woman in Black & Curse of the Demon as good as ever. Scary Stories was surprisingly underwhelming. But Outland.... when I first saw it at the pictures in 1981 I was really unimpressed. "Alien ripoff with High Noon thrown in..."

but re-watching it, it's held up pretty well. Effects still look a bit cheap, and the dialogue in places is dated, but it's not anywhere near as bad as I remembered it. Connery does feel like he's playing it by the numbers, but that's still pretty good. Surprise of the evening!

LATER EDIT: Actually, not quite. I finished the night by watching I Married A Witch (1942) with Frederic March and the stunning Veronica Lake.

Never seen it before, but a lighter movie to end the day with.

Yep Outland effects do look like they were done on a laptop computer but then you have to recall what a stretch they were for when they were done... given a release date of 81 that means they were done in the late 70s

when the best personal computer was the Apple ][ with 12 k of memory and audio tape for program storage and lower case letters had to be added via daughter card...all for About $5,000 iin 1978 bucks with needed software and a printer and. 12” monitor...when a new car was less than $7000 foot a new keep station wagon.
I bet that there was very little CGI in it so all model and wire work...

I don’t think I have ever seen the Veronica Lake film was it on a streaming service?

Yes - all model work, from some of the British crew that had worked on Alien, 2 years previous...

Sadly not - a copy I found whilst looking for my copy of Outland!

However, this might help: https://www.amazon.com/I-Married-Witch-Criterion-Collection/dp/B00DZP1BVO/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1JI5YLXORDI6Z&dchild=1&keywords=i+married+a+witch+dvd&qid=1604242670&s=movies-tv&sprefix=I+Married+a+witch+,aps,278&sr=1-1

It's a Criterion DVD/Bluray. Definitely on the side of slapstick, but good fun and not to be taken too seriously. Like an early Bewitched... but with Veronica Lake!

LATER EDIT: Actually.... just seen in that link that it is available on Amazon Video to stream. Should make it easier to get, Windy!
