I've been working sporadically on the latest Baldemar novelette, now up above 7200 words. I've now settled on who the bad guy is and what he wants from the maguffin.

So on we go.

Started "Dwarves and Rooks" (#11 in Celtic Otherworld, & 4th Detective Marion book) about 7th April, it's 11 days later and I'm at about 23K words. Did the outline plot about 10th. However now have extra stuff I didn't envisage. I've skipped over some bits to get the overall story down, I'll fill the gaps later.

Added another 5K words last night, packed in at 11:50 pm.
A bit slower this morning, added 2K words to "Dwarves and Rooks". Marion (the human detective) is interviewing some Valkyries.

A thousand more words on Baldemar. Twists and turns and some magic. I've decided on who the bad guy is, which helps steer toward the climax.

Now at 30.5K words on "Dwarves and Rooks" and it's 10 pm, so done the nightly backup.
That's about 7.5K since 7.30 pm yesterday. It will need a load of edits and re-writes. I may not get much more done till next week.

Started a new short story--a quantum superhero gets a little too Schroedingered for his own good.

Did 650 words on Baldemar yesterday. Big day in the housesitting field: the owner of the place returned after six months, and just six hours after the alpaca herd's stud keeled over dead from unkn own causes. Alpacas, apparently, are known to do that.

So on we go.

Ouch! That must have been an awkward moment. Were you warned beforehand this might happen?

I was able to email him while he was en route. He did tell us, in notes he left regarding their care, that they can die very quickly, often showing no symptoms until they suddenly drop dead. In fact, he was surprised that we'd got through six months without a fatality.
It upset my wife, though. In more than ten years doing this, with all kinds of pets and livestock, the only thing we'd lost before was a budgie.

Still editing / rewriting "Dwarves and Rooks". Now up to 43.6K as I'm adding in bits I skipped over. Filled in a plothole at 1 am last night. I did go to bed at a reasonable time but got up again. At my age you wonder will you wake in the morning. The laptop boots quick as it's running Linux Mint with Mate desktop, so I decided not worth typing in on the phone. I use the free Jota app on it.

Another 700 words on the Baldemar novelette. Close to finishing the draft, which I hope to do before upping stakes and heading back to Canada.

I have added 1200 words to "Sakuradzima Nua, launchpad of dreams". Also came to conclusion that the character I focus on is a mere tool and not an actual protagonist of the story.

Tentatively thinking of focusing on putting one or more books together.

If you have nothing better to do for the next few minutes my latest strip is up.

'World of Bigness' started as a doodle and grew a bit... then I chanced upon a tatty Alan Class reprint of some of the most pointless SF comics of the late 50's/early 60's - "It Was Earth All Along!" - type which had me in hysterical giggles for hours. After I had calmed down (and swiped a couple of panels) this seven pages of gibberish happened:

I like it.

Went back through some outstanding submissions ... withdrew one from Every Day Fiction.... several were no-responses but that's apparently how they work ("if you don't hear from us in three weeks.... blah, blah, blah")...which I hadn't realized

so currently 14 poems and one non-fiction piece outstanding....

I'm going to begin reviewing, organizing, arranging, sorting and trashing and revising with my eye on putting together a couple of books....
