5 traditional poems (3 just yesterday)
1 microfiction
lots of journal writing in the last few days - ideas, poem drafts, etc...

The twelfth book in the "Celtic Otherworld" series. Started on 1st June.
"Goths and Rooks."
Cumulative Totals (not words per day!)
1st June 2018: 4500 words.
2nd June 2018: 9500 words.
3rd June 2018: 15,800 words.
4th June 2018: 21,000 words.

Slightly subverts the "recent" (1991 to now) tendency to glorify Vampires as sexy and the actually abused girls as romantic Main Characters accepting it. Nor is it like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Though set "now".
At the moment, the Vampire is a minor character, so far on the periphery of the story. Now off to read some 18th Gothics. Mostly Adventure/Romance so far without any actual paranormal. One is like a Scooby Doo, the clanking chains, lights and noises have a purely human origin.

Now 32,500 words on Goths and Rooks. I did get up after midnight and write till 2.30am to do one of the scenes set in Marianne's/Marion's flat.

Short story for one anthology - done - now editing.
Short story for another anthology - researched and begun.
Read through of what has been written so far on old, stalled WIP in progress.

Now 41K words on Goths and Rooks. Time to stop writing and read. Was 26 today, no AC, humid. Warm for here.

Another 3,000 words since last night on Goths and Rooks* Getting hot now (1640hrs). Slowed by having to go shopping and researching various languages and alphabets used in Iran in past. So 44K total now.
Brexit is distracting. Curious to see what fudge entries there are in the confectionary championships.
Had ice cream with biscuits & chocolate that may be an attempt to mimic Ben & Jerry. Made me feel queasy, so will lie in dark for a while.
I may return to writing later tonight when (a) It's cooler, (b) Tummy feels better.
Library window (ex bedroom) faces west. Even with curtains closed it gets very hot from about 1500hrs.
Perhaps an early draft by Monday night.
* There are rooks, but the Goths bit is tenuous. More just that Marion persuades 5 friends and the school that the new but old fashioned clothes meet the 6th Form Dress code. Many other schools in the area actually do still have School Uniforms even after 11th year.

Added 1700 words to my Tales of Potentia novel putting me at 67177. Hopefully, I can make it to 70000 soon.

I'm now at 51,000 words on "Goths and Rooks". I've written the very end and have now I think all the chapter headings as well as the sequence of the last two major events. Lots to fill in on a few chapters. Getting closer to point to export as eBook and read/annotate on my eReader. I don't now give to beta readers until revised a few times, or nearly "done". None are going to read more than twice and only the second time if there is major revisions and a lot of extra content
I don't have a target number of words, I think it's more important to have enough story and not padding or info dumps. I've no objection to writing short stories or novellas, I just tend to write about 42,000 to about 135,000 for a story. I don't think length is important now, even for paper, unless it for less than ten years old reading age. Publishers liked in 1950s to 1970s to have more standardised paperbacks in thickness and similar size for books in a series. Now it seems to be hard (here) to get even the same H & W, font and layout of format for books in a series (apart from hardback, large trade size and mass market size editions). Some book series do still seem to be very uniform in format and length.

You could do that in one evening if you know what you want to write. Sometimes I lie in bed with radio not quite loud enough to make out and daydream about conversation of characters, or think what they might decide to do next. I used to keep a notebook, or jot it down on free "Jota" on my phone or table. Now I just get up, go to library/study and boot laptop. This does mean I might get up at midnight and write to 5.30 am (I did last week). No day job to go out to since being made redundant, so I make my own writing schedule. I take a break if the grass gets too high etc.

Now 2253 hours and 54,000 words, 32 chapters, "Goths and Rooks". I think the story is now complete (started 1st June). A very early possibly complete draft. I shall read it (for the first time) & annotate it completely in the coming week and see what needs done.
Some bits may need cut or changed to reflect how the story later developed.
Some paragraphs where someone mentions something that happened earlier may need to be earlier chapters. Due to my "Top Down" approach subsequent versions gain more than they are cut.
