Pretty much took the weekend off, did a bit of reading, some of the short story contest, but other stories, flash nonfiction and instructional/inspirational.

Just did a quick and minor edit of Metal Men my entry to this month's SS contest, going to move it to 'completed' and see if there is a market to send it to.

Made a first pass through my completed work. Sorted into three piles:

1. Probably include which amounts to about 60 pieces the shortest being 0 words and the longest about 2400

2. Get out of my sight. 2 pieces - one that was just bad and the other that is long and bad.

3. Probably not - 10 pieces that are passable but not great and may not fit.

There is also the possibility of including current 'in progress' pieces if I determine that I need them and if I can get them finalized.

I'm sure there will be others that don't seem to fit or fit appropriately as I begin to organize things. This organization to me is one of the most important parts of putting together a collection. The opening in particular and the flow from piece to piece should be smooth with the possibly exception of how and if the various pieces are grouped into similar topics, feelings, emotions, or concepts.

For now that's where I'm at other than I have a rough template (in Word) to begin with. I need to find and create an appropriate cover and I may or may not do something similar to my previous collection Prosthetic Amalgams. I'm thinking maybe go a different direction, but it's really up in the air at the moment.

Not much of a start but a big hurdle just to make that first pass.

Sorted them all into four broad categories/groups based on length and type .... eliminated 3 because they just don't seem to fit ... still have four in the 'maybe but probably not' pile. :D

I completed a issue of a super hero comic book that is part 1 of a 2 part story that lasts for 2 issues.
The Dark Lord super villain said something to a citizen that makes it obvious it's a 2 part story.

A Ancient Evil Super Villain:
It's unknown how he got created along with when exactly, Also why the hell is he destructive. In ways I think that makes him like the birds in the movie The Birds along with the Lovecraft monsters.
He's a powerhouse Super Villain that could easily destroy a planet so defeating him is very hard.
This is fitting since the 1st super hero he fights is also a powerhouse which is in his 2nd appearence.
That is my current writing project, and since I don't know all his powers abilties I can't overexpose him.

His name that he gave himself is a variant of a word much like Darth, and Nihilus.

I did draw a Head of what the Dark Lord a Devil what he'll look like, and I'm very pleased. He looks dreadful. This super villain is the archenemy of 1 of my Super Heroes. It's the same super villain appearing in the 2 issues story arc.

Got a creative spark and wrote/finished/posted a story for the microfiction contest early Saturday ('Perspective' but I'm thinking of changing the title to 'Yahweh') then took off most of the rest of the weekend, or at least relaxed....re-read a few Richard Ford stories yesterday, a few Jayne Anne Phillips stories....various other stuff...

This morning I got back to my sorting/thinking/arranging for my next collection.....slow progress.....but a bit of progress maybe....

I've got quite a pile of stuff though (now stop that dontchew be talking trash about my piles!)

I don't know if anyone here has done this sort of thing, but I have hardcopy printouts of each story pulled from my completed stories/prose poems files and am physically sorting and arranging the ordering. I scatter and group them all over the floor of my office when I do this (whether it a poetry collection which I've done several of or story collection like this) in order to get a feel for the flow of the book as whole. I like one piece to flow into the next without any major jarring of mindset of the reader if possible. The section boundaries of course allow for shifts of perspective.

In many ways I feel the flow of the collection is just as important as the flow in the individual stories/poems.

I think I may have a cover for the collection......worked on it a bit this morning....like what I'm seeing, but will let it sit for a bit as I continue to sort and arrange and organize and chase squirrels out of the way...

After working on my cover which got me kinda jazzed about putting this collection together I just went through all my selections and almost completely reorganized them.....I've now got one stack of papers all in an order and I think I'm going to start building the book......I will probably end up reorganizing things again once I see whether they are fitting together and flowing properly......onward and upward or something like that!

Well, I worked my butt off and I have a draft/initial version of my collection together.
I need to add one thing, but it's just about 100 pages give or take with 68 individual pieces.

I Will need to do some serious review/editing of both the format and content as well as the flow. I did end up dividing it into three sections.

I think I'll go have my dinner now. :D

Woo-Hoo!!!

ETA: I only now checked the word count....it is about 23K.
(I'm proofreading this morning)

Not really meaning to hog this thread, but....

I did a proofread of Prosthetic Amalgams II.... found and fixed a couple of minor errors.
copied the kindle/mobi version to my phone and Kindle 2 as well as my Kindle Fire. Everything is looking good. I'll probably sit on it a few days and do a few more read-throughs, proofreads, but I'm think this one may be in the books --- other than of course getting it up for sale and doing some marketing. :D

Man! This is the part I kinda hate.....upload, convert the file to kindle/mobi .... read .... reread .... proofread .... find a missing comma or missing period or missing word..... edit .... upload .... convert .... download .... copy to multiple devices, check, recheck, reread....do it all over .... a dozen or so times ..... but I swear I'm just about there at this point. Really....really.....I am....

Yesterday was a bit of a bust as plans changed early and it kinda threw everything off....

Today I went through my Completed Poems and set aside a handful that I actually like....last time I went through this file I was not really pleased at all. I'm got a lot of poems I've written over the last year or so, but most of them are marginal at best. Not much chance of putting together a collection from these I don't think, but I do like the few that are good. :D

Maybe I'll do some marketing of those few.
