TV Series or Show You're Watching

The trailer for the Second Season of the Apple TV+ Original Series For All Mankind is up at IMDB. It was recently premiered at the virtual SDCC.

looks like the series is jumping forward to 1980, based on the footage of President Regan. They are clearly departing further into their alternative timeline, as we see guns in space and shuttles on the way to the moon.

it will be interesting to see if they release this or delay it, as I have read they only had six episodes filmed before the pandemic. Will they go ahead and put these out, or hold them till more can be completed. We’ll have to wait and see...

Thanks PD. Liked the first series even if it sagged a little in the middle. Would be happy to wait for the new series, if we need to. But 6 out of 8 (?) - means it's nearly there...

I figure they will release it, as they will need new content for the streaming service. However, the lack of the last two episodes might mean that there is no clear conclusion to the storyline. Maybe they’ll put the last two together into a feature presentation later? It is weird times for TV and movies! In a while everyone will be hurting for new content...
 
Watched Marvel's Agents of Shield last night. (Two episodes) Liked it. You wonder, why this crap? Because it is (was) character driven, used the Marvel access to money to make it visually creative ( through both the series and the the connected blockbusters) and was what the rest of the world sees as science fiction.
What I watched, because I had lost interest in the series due to its complexity, (signifying nothing?) was the start of season 6, a year old. What I liked was that they had again returned to great mindless action. Also that the lead character (spoiler) Phil Coulson returned in a new avatar.
The positive experience of this series is to watch character driven, often humerous episodes. The negative is trying to follow an increasingly complex set of plot devices that are insufficient to support continuing interest.
Well, I have the interest (disability?) of liking several of the characters. And it got better. I watched on Netflix. The next season, so far, is only on Hulu.

Has anyone watched and reacted to the most commercial mainstream SF series?
What I am referring to is Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek Discovery , the above mentioned Agents of Shield and anything else not of the somewhat alt production process, but aimed at the masses.
I ask because although I hugely credit mentions of less $$$ backed stuff, those suggestions are really for us. I would appreciate mention of things seen by relatively huge numbers of watchers. Why? Because what is out there for the general public.
And though the thought may be less, the audience is greater and it affects everything that is available.

Note: One thing I appreciate is watching productions that may never make it to the commercial spectrum. SF movie marathons do some of that. Suggestions here do also. So thank y'all for listening.

I’ve watched Star Trek: Discovery, and the first season was a little difficult. Like pretty much every other Trek series, they had to find their groove. Season 2 was great! I absolutely would recommend both though, just be patient with Season 1. There are also the Short Treks, associated with both seasons. These are excellent little side stories. The third season is supposedly on track for release in October 2020.

I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Star Trek: Picard, because it is not yet available for purchase in the US. Those episodes are great though, and it looks like this series could be good overall.

Another commercial series that is both popular and pretty excellent is The Expanse, available on Amazon Prime now (originally a SyFy series). There are four seasons, which mostly follow the novels by S. A. Corey. These are one of the most realistic depictions of space travel and related physics ever filmed.
 
I too thought the second series of ST: Discovery was better, mainly because
the reintroduced Captain Pike
and the actor playing him was brilliant. Unsurprisingly, there's to be a spin-off series that might be more like the Original Series.

Picard started really well for me, but took some odd detours in the middle and threw it all away at the end
by ending it on some ridiculous moments with everything thrown in and an all-too-obvious setup for a second series
. Patrick Stewart was still great, even if some of the rest was less so. Both series were shown on Amazon Prime here in the UK.
 
I've started watching the 12 Monkeys TV series (based on the very good Terry Gilliam movie) - so far kept my interest, and I've read reviews that it gets better (by season) as it goes....

Yeah I lost interest half way through.
 
12 Monkeys is a great, well-written series with a lot of twists. The only problem I found with it was that because it's (surely no spoiler required?) about time travel, it's a little hard to keep up with all the events, bit Game of Thrones where you say to yourself who is that guy? When did that happen? Answer: you may not have met him yet or it may not have happened yet. But it will.

STD (oh dear!) :D I hated from the first episode, went back much later around the fifth and really enjoyed it. I have yet to watch season 2 but there was a suitably Borg/Picard cliffhanger to end season one, so I think I'll be looking forward to it. Star Trek: Egg (sorry Picard; my sister always refers to Picard as the Egg, for obvious reasons) I have yet to see anything of. I feel, however, without having seen it, that it's a lazy idea. We've had seven seasons and several movies with Picard. Move on. Get something totally new, different. I mean, STE I mean STP apparently features all the usual suspects in cameos and guest roles. Is it not really just STNG reborn through the back door? I'd like to have seen a series based around Kingons (with virtually no interference from humans) maybe in their early space-faring history or the Ferengi, or even the Dominion.

So far I've kept up but yeah I can imagine this getting more complicated as more time lines are introduced.
 
It does, but some of the links are truly amazing. Like, you'll sit back and say Oh I see! Wow! I would never have sussed that.

Only got to season three I think myself. Must catch up.
 
Anyone watching Prodigal Son? Technically, not sf or f but more a psychological crime story, the basis of which is that an FBI profiler is trying to help the cops track down serial killers. Bleh, right? Done it before. Except the twist here is that his own father is in prison as a serial killer, and he has to ask him for help. Pretty engaging so far. The great Michael Sheen shines (no pun intended) as the serial killer father. It really draws you in.

I downloaded a couple of episodes. Will give it a shot as well. Unusual that season 1 consists of no less than 20 episodes.
 
I'd take that as a good thing. So many series these days seem to get 13 or less episodes in a season, that to get 20 ordered has to be promising. Whether it ends there or goes on into a second season I don't know: something like this could get drawn out beyond its natural life - look at The Night Of. That was superb, but there was no real way it could exist beyond the first season, and it ended so well that to try to resurrect or stretch it would, in my opinion, have been a bad move. Incidentally, you could put that on your list too. Absolutely stunning indictment of what happens when an innocent young man goes to prison. Harrowing.
