This seems to have become a mini-series, but the pivotal episode appears to have aired yesterday. It’s been a long week, and has been very dramatic!
 
Yeah, looks like one of the major characters is about to be killed off. He may get his own spin-off show though: it's a mix of black comedy, satire, reality television and poorly-chosen music (really: YMCA? Did he even realise?) - billed as a cross between X Factor and Jackass...
 
About to start 3rd season of Westworld. Same guy who did Person of Interest. Jonathan Nolan(?) It's hard, though, to keep the story straight as the time line flits back an forth like a mosquito on crack.

(To be honest, I've been distracting myself with British history.)
 
What did you think of the satire that Billy Crystal did above.... I thought it was cool that he was given access to the sets and graphic elements by the west world production people
 
Watched the Netflix series, The Liberator, this weekend (4 episodes in all), which is a WWII story adapted from the NF book,The Liberator: One World War II Soldier’s 500-Day Odyssey by Alex Kershaw and focused on the experiences of Captain Felix Sparks and the Thunderbirds. Interestingly enough, it’s animated. They used a technique called trioscope, so if you’ve seen Undone, the effect is similar. I thought it was a very compelling war story.

The Orville is great. I think if you look at it less as a comedy series (which of course everyone, including me, expected, given who's at the helm) and more as a semi-serious science fiction series with a slightly irreverent twist, you'll enjoy it all the more. Season 2 is excellent, almost up to Star Trek TNG standards, honestly. Looking forward to season 3.
 
It's definitely based on Star Trek. You only have to look at all the in-jokes, and the way the missions are constructed, the command structure, the uniforms, the multi-ethnic/multi-racial crews, even the design of the ships and the way they (ahem) warp. I doubt it could be clearer. Seth grew up watching Trek (probably not TNG) and obviously wanted to make something similar, while not being so up himself about it, as you have to admit just about all of Trek, bar maybe the original, can be accused of being.
 
Yeah, it's nice that it kind of has the Trek seal of approval. Even the titles and the way they're displayed, the credits at the end and the way the Orville warps away at the end of each episode - pure Trek.
 
FYI, I mentioned that Belgian series Public Enemy earlier. If anyone has Sky Atlantic in the UK it begins tomorrow night/Monday morning, hidden away in the schedule at 03:00 AM. If you can get it, do. It's worth the disk space.
