What games are you playing?

I've finally gotten around to playing Mass Effect! While I have gripes with that style of game (namely Bioware RPGs), I'm having a really great time. I'm far more invested in the world, characters, and story than I was in New Vegas, and the gameplay is also an improvement. I earnestly like reading all the lore and !!Liara!! is so sweet.

Additionally I've gotten into Slay the Spire which is super my kind of game. I 100 percented FTL almost three times and while I don't think I'll get that far with Slay the Spire, it's still super engaging, if light on story.

What platform are you guys mostly playing on? And is anyone here into retro gaming? I only play on the PC myself. I have several rigs to suit different types of games - from old DOS and Windows 95 games up to my fastest rig can play titles well from a few years ago.

I've been gradually getting together all the parts to build a rig that can handle the latest titles at high/ultra settings at least up to 1080p - on the cheap.

I have everything I need for that project now apart from a used CPU cooler suitable for overclocking my CPU up to around 5Gb and a suitable second hand GPU, probably a GTX 1660 Super or a RX 5700 suit my budget and would be good for 1080p.

I too am PC only. I like games with a thriving non-commercial modding community, which pretty much rules out consoles. Too, I've always favored mouse/keyboard over controller. Maybe that's because most of the games I play tend to have sophisticated UI's with lots of keys to press. I've assembled my own PCs since sometime during the 90s. My current primary PC was assembled mid 2017. I'd normally have done a GPU upgrade about now, but Nvidia jacked up prices on the card-tier I normally buy (the GTX xx70 line) so much it's not economically feasible to buy an appreciably faster card anywhere close to my budget limit. Besides, playing at 1920x1080 my GTX1070 gets by just fine.

@Decrepit&Senile My fastest machine has a GTX750ti and a i7-2700K, 16Gb RAM + SSD It's runs pretty well and it is OK for older titles but probably for nothing new.

I'm one of those who played a lot of games in the 90s then nothing at all for about 25 yrs -so I have lot of stuff to explore that I never played

Currently I am playing Borderlands (1) and loving it - on the second play-through as I enjoyed it so much. Gonna try Borderlands 2 soon. I also played all the Tombraider games from the first one (on one of my old rigs with a Voodoo 2) - and I'm currently on Tombraider Legends which i will complete when I can put Borderlands down!

I enjoy going to the local flea market and picking up old PC games for next to nothing (and old PC hardware too)

PC Gamer here too. I used to be exclusively a console player, but found games cheaper and better on PC. Mostly stick to a handful of games when I do get the chance, and my old system (similar to yours, peligroraton - i7 2600, 12gb RAM, 1060 6gb GPU) runs most pretty well, though not necessarily on high for newer games. Looking at upgrading to a Zen 2/3 rig when money allows.

I love the Borderlands games - played them all for hundreds of hours and thoroughly recommend them! Mostly wasting time on GTA online at the moment...

Just started Divinity Orignal Sin 2 AKA DOS2
and it is looking quite dense with an armor based combat system but it sure looks pretty on my old 5K 27" iMac (late 2014 so it is 6 years old but it looks like the pc game was new late 2017) it is running nicely at max ultra graphics with the AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4 GB in this mac even though says it prefers Nvidia cards

I finally purchased Final Fantasy XV after umm-ing and ahh-ing for a long time. I used to love the FF series, though XII was the last I played (though never did get around to completing it). I remember trying XIII but not really getting into it. FFXV will be the first game on the new PC once I get the CPU...

Bought Train Simulator 2021 and several of its add-ons not long ago. Am struggling to learn how to drive steam locos. Verdict thus far - I'm inept. Still, it keeps me off the streets (but on the track). Here's an image of a rarity, my train successfully arrives at its destination. I didn't run out of water, destroy the engine en route, or grossly overshoot the destination platform, something of a miracle:

I continue my longstanding Daggerfall play-through, which was transferred to Unity last year. Here's a shortish video of my avatar performing a dungeon crawl along with its aftermath. A good many DFU graphics enhancing mods are on display:
(Both the base game and DFU are free to download, as are its many mods (from either Nexus or Daggerfall Workshop.)

Played through The Park yesterday morning, and enjoyed it. Very creepy, plenty of chills, and an interesting story that kept me hooked until I found out the details. Not too long a game either, roughly 2 1/2 hours start to finish. There were also some Stephen King references in there, which was a nice touch.

Last week I played through Gone Home (a great narrative story that I thoroughly enjoyed), and A Story About My Uncle (fun mechanics that sometimes drove me crazy, but overall good fun). I fancied a racing game so I dusted off my PS3 and have played a fair bit of Gran Turismo 5 as it's the only one I have. Also dipping in and out of Cities Skylines so I can listen to some audiobooks.

New CPU should be here this week so I can finally jump into something a bit meatier (I've already moved my better GPU to the new case and can't run much on my old 750ti, at least with decent fps and quality). Thinking either FFXV or Outer Worlds...

I continue with modded Daggerfall Unity and Train Simulator 2021. Here's image captured during three separate 'drives', showing, in order, a "Jones Goods" pulled excursion train, a "Terrier" pulled passenger train, and a "Spinner" pulled excursion train. (As you might deduce, I've little interest in diesel/electric railroading.)

looks like fun... been years since the has been a useable simulator of any sort for the macintosh just things like RR tycoon which don't interest me

I downloaded Star Wars: Squadrons. First impressions are good.

Replaying Half-Life p2 and its episodes, I love that game.

I believe TANE (Trainz: A New Era) had/has a Mac version. I'm pretty sure the current version, Trainz 2019, doesn't. I own Trainz 2019. It's okay. IMO, Train Simulator is the better franchise in most aspects. They're both money sinks, TS2021 being worse in that regard. Of course, those satisfied with the routes/trains provided with the base game won't be concerned with that.

Was beginning to burn out on TS2021, until discovering the free Station Workshop route Lenton-on-Sea yesterday afternoon. As luck would have it, I bought the only two requirements I lacked to use the route that morning. (Two $2.49 scenery packs.) Drove a QuickDrive on it after supper, with a LSWR Adams Radial Tank pulled passenger train. Very impressive! Here are two images captured during the run:

I've not done much with Daggerfall Unity lately, other than download, install and test a new mod that provides HiRes textures for a few NPCs.

Handsome renderings D&S, Thanks for the heads-up about TANE I will look into it.

The way some software nickel and dimes you over and over is a major PITA but the alternatives (the subscription model where you get hit with $20 to $50 a tear and when you stop paying the software stops working is just as evil I was a beta tester for what eventually became Photoshop in the early 80s and when they went to a like model I had to give up dearly loved software but it was something that as a retired income constrained consumer hobbyist I could no longer afford)
I don't see a viable alternative for narrow interest software like simulation software Though Kerbal Space seems to do it and its a lot of fun.

That said they are not rolling in cash either
Kerbal Space Program 2 will be delayed until fall 2021 due to complications caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic. ... Kerbal Space Program 2 was later delayed further to the 2021 fiscal year, meaning it would launch between April 2020 and March 2021. Now, it's coming at an unspecified date in fall 2021

My wife and I both play Everquest 2 & Guild Wars 2. EQ2 for 12 yrs & GW2 since launch. Not necessarily at the same time. Just bouncing between games every few years to catch up on expansions.

I've tried several other games, but I just keep coming back to these 2.

At the moment, my pick-of-the-litter is the SECR H-class, despite it being a bit under-powered for the QuickDrive's pre-configured coaches. No biggie. I can create any number of QuickDrive coach and/or wagon loads for it should I so choose.

I'm still playing RDR2, mostly, with a little PC BUilding Simulator thrown in. Thanks to the winter sale I've been trying the Eports expansion pack.
