I had forgotten about that... You're right, that definitely makes it even worse. Anyway, I don't expect characters to be perfectly rational, reasonable creatures - how many real people do we know who are like that?! But there's something particular about Cat that ticks me off.

And Neds secresy about Jon's mother hasn't helped the matter, that only confirms to Cat that Ned really loved the mother even more than Cat.

in case you weren't aware, most people believe that Jon is NOT Ned's son at all, but that he's the son of Lyanna (Ned's sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen...this would explain a lot, including Ned's visions of Lyanna saying "promise me Ned! Promise me!", and the fact that he REFUSED to talk about Jon's mother. Don't you think that if Ned had just been unfaithful, he would have owned up to it? He was honorable enough that he would probably be open about it, especially since Cat already knows it happened... she just doesn't know who the woman was...


Anyway, I like Cat.. I agree, her treatment of Jon SUCKED, but that's possibly her only real flaw. Everything else she's done (with the POSSIBLE exception of abducting Tyrion) has been pretty smart, and most people DO have at least some totally irrational flaws. But I agree, Jon was innocent, and did NOT deserve that. I liked the scene in SoS where Robb TOLD his mom that Jon would become his heir, and she couldn't convince him to change his mind.

I think, as Cardo said, that she hated Jon because he represented Ned's unfaithfulness, and the refusal to tell her who the mother was DID in fact make her believe that in some ways Ned loved that woman more than herself.
 
Ya, probably if any of us where mothers, we could relate.

I never liked Cat, I never hated Cat. But her chapters where always boring.
 
About the wolves, when I think about it I remeber that it was lady who was killed instead of Nymeria, who still runs wild in the countryside. Wasn't there tales about a pack of wolves that was lead by an enourmous wolf, which has to be Nymeria.
 
Yup, and I don't think the lead wolf is dead yet. However, I don't think Nymera will like Arya anymore, since Arya threw rocks at the thing so it wouldn't follow them.
 
I'd say she and Arya will still be close, because it's Arya's dreams where we see those glimpses of Nymeria.. in fact, Arya almost seems as connected to her animal as Bran is sometimes. She dreams about hunting, and tastes the blood of her kills, etc.
 
Everyone of them has some kind of connection with their wolves, evryone but not Robb. Jon can sense Gohst, Arya is Nymeria in her dreams and Bran can see through Summers eyes whenever he wants to. But there was nothing like that with Robb and Grey wind!?
 
What about Sansa?
It's hard to judge their bond when there wasn't any chapters with Sansa when lady was still alive, but at least she did care a lot about it.
 
I don't think anyone had a bond with the Direwolf when the wolves where just pups.

Khal, we don't know about Robb's connection because he doesn't have his own chapters, I'm sure he doe though.

Arya might still be able to befriend Nymeria, but not for a while, since she's on Bravoss, and Nym is on Westoros.
 
Could Sansa befriend Aryas wolf?
They were sisters as are the wolves!

Actually, no, I wasn't aware of that! But it does fit :)
Though, I think Ned's honor would not have required him to tell Cat of this woman. Not necessarily. I mean, it was so SO early in the relationship, and - yes - Cat had just been engaged to Ned's brother. What emotional loyalty could possibly have been expected between them?! The whole thing's just odd... This is one more thing that makes it difficult for me to understand and/or identify with Cat. I agree freely, though, that everything else she does is perfectly fine/honorable/intelligent (except the Tyrion abduction, right). So, can't fault her for anything else. Still don't like her, though.

Amen to that! :) But it did get better toward the end.... Well, certainly not boring, wouldn't you say?! :)

Yes, true. But that doesn't necessarily mean Nymeria will be all so forgiving. Or... Well, even if they reconcile (and I very much hope they will), it might not be as easy or as happy a thing as just meeting up and going back to "normal". I'm actually pretty excited about that particular plot line (about finding out what happens, that is). It seems inevitable that they WILL meet again, and it better be soon, or those dreams will drive Arya mad, imo.

That would be a strange thing but I think Nymeria is even a little wild for Arya so I doubt Sansa could befriend her overly much
 
But wouldn't it be just what Sansa needs, a real protector and somebody who stands for her in all weathers ?
If she starts to play the game of wits, then it's good to have some muscles as back-up :)

well, that's an interesting thought, but the question is,
Does Nymeria also think Sansa betryed Arya, or the direwolves?
 
Yeah, I don't think Nymeria is down with Sansa.. but also, Sansa is going by the name Alayne, and is in disguise.. She can't just have a direwolf following her around.
 
I don't think Nymeria is in any mood to "just follow" anyone around, these days. Seems like if either of the girls want her company, they might have to do some heavy running in the woods to keep up :)
 
The thing that I found to be most infuriating was Bran being pushed out of the window by Jamie Lannister. Before he got pushed, his chapters were my favorite with the exception of possibly Ned's chapters. However, up until the later chapters of A Storm of Swords, I just didn't like his chapters nearly as much and all I could think about was how much fun he had and how much better his chapters would have been. He is starting to become one of my favorite characters again but we will see what happens in the next book.
 
I agree, that made me mad too. Somehow I doubt Bran liked those chapters any more than you did :). Happy joy-joy people are great to read, but pain makes for excellent character development. Most of the best characters that have been written were tortured quite a bit by their authors.

But it can still make us mad. ;)
 
But the part where he fell was only like the 2nd or 3rd Bran chapter anyway, so you can't really say "I loved all Bran's chapters until he fell"... it happened so early. But yes that was infuriating, and probably the first thing that got me hooked on the series. I hated Jaime for that, for the longest time, but try as I might Martin really makes you start liking him in SoS... still, I'll never forgive him for indirectly breaking Ned's leg!:mad:
