5 Awesome Time Machines from Movies by Jevon Knights

Man has always been obsessed with travelling through time. Who hasn’t wanted to turn back the clock and see how events actually happened, or go forward and see what the future holds. But there’s another thing man has always been obsessed with: fashion. After all, if you’re going to travel through time, might as well do it in style. So with design in mind, come with me as we explore five awesome time machines from movies.

Time Sphere: Terminator

When resistance leader John Conner realizes that artificial intelligence Skynet sends a terminator back in time to kill his younger self, he sends his daddy back to stop it in a Time Sphere.

While we never actually see the device, the result is stunning. An electrical sphere casts the traveler back to a date of choice, melting away anything it touches and ensuring that only flesh remains.

Make sure and tell everyone goodbye before you go. This device is a one-way ticket.

And don’t teleport directly back to that once-in-a-lifetime party, because you’ll have a bit of an upset stomach, and you’ll be completely naked.

The Rocket Rail: Timecop

It makes perfect sense that traveling through time involves putting a pod on rails and using a rocket to slam it into a wall.

Timecop Max agrees, as he doesn’t hesitate to ride the Rocket Rail to the past and kick every bad guy’s ass back to the present. Who cares about that wall (except for the Volmer twins)?

Hop into the cockpit of this triangular rail cart, strap yourself down, hold on and enjoy the ride. Screams are welcome. Just don’t forget your track and return module.

And watch out when you arrive. This machine tends to sling-shot you in front of speeding trucks.

Tardis: Doctor Who

The Doctor is a Time Lord who explores time and space in a machine that’s even more memorable than his adventures: the Tardis.

With a giant light bulb at its crown, twisted sex-crazed noises for an engine’s hum, and more real estate on the inside than it appears from the outside, this indestructible phone booth of a time machine has a sleek blue design and is rumored to have travelled over a hundred trillion years.

I’m not sure how good of a disguise a phone booth is in this century, but be careful next time you need to make an urgent call and forgot your cell phone home again, else you just might end up fighting the Darlecks, and that is never a good thing.

Time Machine: The Time Machine

If it’s one thing that H. G. Wells has thought us, it’s that one cannot change the past. But that doesn’t mean one can’t try.

When a 19th century Victorian Englishman loses the love of his life, he draws for his grand knowledge of  x=y equations, grabs his living room chair, combines them with everyday household appliances in just the right order, and builds a time machine. Then he travels millions of years into the future looking for the answer to the question “how can he save her?”.

This whirring, mesmerizing, crazy steampunkish device has one seat and a whole lot of mechanics.

It’s not clear what it runs on, but simply crank it up and watch the years go by.

The Delorean: Back to the Future

Was there ever any doubt?

This V6, 130 horsepower, 0 to awesome in 8.8 seconds is the most stylist time machine to date. Get it up to 88 miles per hour, channel in 1.21 gigawatts of electricity through the Flux Capacitor and you’ll be speeding through time leaving flaming tire tracks in your wake.

Marty learns this the hard way, as he inadvertently travels into the past and screws up his future. If only the Doc hadn’t been so careless.

Through Marty and Doc’s adventures, the Delorean sees several upgrades, including a Mr. Fusion addition to fix that pesky plutonium problem, and a hover conversion.

Roads? We don’t need roads!

So our journey through five awesome time machines from movies is now complete. Now that we’re back, what do you think? Let me know in the comments.
