Director of ‘Alien,’ ‘Blade Runner,’ to be Honored

Ridley Scott will be honored with the 2016 American Cinematheque Award this Friday in Los Angeles.

The American Cinematheque Award is “presented annually to an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of the Moving Picture.”

Scott has directed numerous science fiction and fantasy films, including Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Prometheus, and 2015’s film of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, The Martian.

Scott recently finished directing Alien: Covenant, the sequel to his 2012 film, Prometheus. The film is set to release in August 2017.

He is also a producer on Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to his 1982 film, Blade Runner.

Among those who will assist in presentation of the award are Sigourney Weaver, Russell Crowe, Noomi Rapace, and Matt Damon.

Previous honorees of the award include: Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Rob Reiner, and Jerry Bruckheimer.
