I finally convinced number two daughter to sit down and watch Highlander with me. Her open-mouthed What the F&*K is going on expression that she wore for the whole show made my night. Number One Son (aged 11) who joined us said "This is going to give me nightmares for years... all that head chopping off - and snogging!"

Kind Hearts and Coronets. If you ever wanted to know why Sir Alec Guinness is such a treasured and respected actor, watch it. He plays nine separate roles. And it's hilarious.

the lavender hill mob,

Last movie I watched was Freedom Writers.

I really enjoyed it. I noted some similarities theme-wise to Blackboard Jungle, which had come out 50 years earlier.

I like a good Hitchcock..... Got a nice Bluray set with this in, which shows how well they can scrub up...

It was said to be one of Hitchcock's favorites he took care to claw back to himself all of its rights along with 5 of his others and he left the 6 to his daughter and for several decades they were unavailable outside of restricted film school collections. I wonder if your blueray set is of those 6 films of his?

This movie was unavailable for three decades because its rights (together with four other movies of the same period) were bought back by Sir Alfred Hitchcock and left as part of his legacy to his daughter Patricia Hitchcock. They were known for years as the infamous "five lost Hitchcocks" amongst movie buffs. The movies were re-released in theaters in 1984 after an approximately thirty year absence. The others are Rope (1948), Rear Window (1954), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), and Vertigo (1958).

I remember quite enjoying it in a 'park your brain and just go along with it' way. A sort of 'can do' thing that Robert Heinlein might have knocked out in his sleep. The follow up TV series was, by all accounts, not worth bothering with

The sequel was also a farce (recall the discussion we had about Science Fiction farce and I posited that for me Farce is much more a visual or aural medium that is to say radio plays, theater, and film are its natural habitat

These two films are great examples of late 1950s and they still get a laugh from me the first is a solid 5 star farce the sequel at best a 3 1/2 star
I would love to know how others react to the mouse that roared today have any of you watched in the last year or so?
I think Salvage 1 took a few of its set pieces from the earlier mouse on the moon which did a better job...

Yes, that sums it up. I got the series from the same source, but it's a VHS rip that on a big TV looks like watching through a layer of bubble wrap, so not high on the list.

Yes. Watched Mouse That Roared last night.
Didn't stand up as well as I expected.
Sellers was pretty bland. And as a farce, had a lot of posturing with little humor. Oh well -

Some things are best left to memory yet green I guess. I wonder if it would be a geed remake candidate and would you stunt cast it again with one actor playing multiple parts?

I believe so: and was so successful he made the sequel.

I am conflicted with Sellers - I used to love his movies when I was younger, but as an adult, when I hear about what sort've person he was, it puts me off his films a bit.

My stepma (stage name Julia Shelly) sang regularly on the BBC. On variety shows they pulled her in to sing a "light air" between comedy skits.
She said that Sellers had a persona such that other performers learned not tp look at him when they were coming on air. His bland looks alone would cause people to crack up "Live on the BBC!"
