I Just Bought (DVD)

I splurged and just bought

Northern Exposure Season 1, way too expensive.

I will get season 2 as soon as I can afford it.

Daredevil - director's cut (30 minutes longer)
Iron Giant
and not yet arrived but hopefully soon:
Hellboy - director's cut

Just in:
Indiana Jones box set (Indy! I love you!)
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Just got Jet Li's Hero... used up a gift card and got it free.

BuffyTVS Season 7 and 1
Angel Season 4, and soon... soon... Angel season 5!
And planning on getting Firefly for Christmas.

:D Viva Joss!

RotK Extended Edition, 50 minutes of added and extended scenes and 6 hours of more extras. It really fleshes things out, adds a lot of humor, Saruman's death, etc.

ROTK ~ Extended Collector's Edition Brilliant, for me it is the best movie of the three. Although I do have an emotive connection to the film, as I saw it in Berlin as part of a magical night in general. The extra scenes are great and tonight, I am going to watch some of the documentaries.

Hero Very good, the photography is just as good if not better than Crouching Tiger, and I think the characters are much stronger and the story much more complex and engaging. Snow and Broken Sword in particular are fascinating, as is their relationship. And hey, if you're going to have a Kung-Fu Hero, Jet Li is the man.

Apart from the water scenes, with nameless and broken sword bouncing off the surface of the lake, the wire-fu is not too 'Chinese Fantasy', I was worried after Vampire Hunters that it would be too rediculous.

I've got a whole stack of DVDs purchased the past month, none of which I've had time to watch.

Kung Fu - The first complete season
ROTK EE
Spiderman 2
Elf
Ella Enchanted
Van Helsing
Shrek 2
Chronicles of Riddick

I recently picked up Beyond the Movie, Alexander the Great by National Geographic. It is an hour long documentary, and it is pretty bad.

It glosses over a lot and covers the material of Alexander's life very quickly. It also has these horrible little vignettes that they hired some character-actor heavy-type to play Alexander. It is revolting, especially when they intercut with some of the beautiful marble statues of Alexander. If they had any sense they would have covered the story of the movie - in terms of telling what was true and what was made up, but they often don't and then they skip over whole other parts of his history so there isn't a lot of light shed on who he was.

They do have several historians and one general who talk about different parts of his life. But unfortunately the story the documentary makers chose to tell is Alexander the killer and Alexander the meglomaniac. Pretty standard hatchet job.

I don't know if I should admit this,
I bought Starhunter Vol 1 (at the discount store).
They compacted 8 episodes onto the disk, and it did effect the quality.
I think I am missing something, I really didn't get the first three episodes.
The one I watched at 3AM made more sense. I was kind of hoping they would get to the interesting story, the one they kept hinting at but never got to. This may be a good candidate for a MST3K party.
Does anyone know if Vol 2 is worth even looking at? (even at a discount?)

One of the key benefits to living with your lover...

You can buy her/him DVDs that really, YOU want in your collection :D

Just bought my GF, the complete Michael Palin documentaries (Sahara, Himalaya and so on), I think it is something rediculous like 16 Discs!!!

Quality.

Also stole 'Troy' from my mum's coffee table whilst she was in France. ;)

Too bad that stops working after you've been married for a while. The last movie I got for my wife that I liked was Last of the Mohicans, (which should tell you how long ago that was.) That one worked becuase it had something for both of us. She caught on to that game pretty quick. (Doggone clever . . .)
For her last birthday I bought her a DVD of The Man from Snowy River. It's scary--she positively swoons. :p

Just took deliverey of the Collectors Extended edition of ROTK - sadly the second bonus bookend of Minus Morgul has already sold out so I'll have to be content with one. :(

Oh well, looking forward to the extra 48 minutes of footage though! :)

Some Xmas booty DVD's:

Shaun of the Dead
King Arthur (Director's Cut)
The Manchurian Candidate (the remake)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I am still in two minds about whether to get King Arthur or not. I hear such differing accounts!Let us know if you like it or not. I am a bit of a purist in as much as you can be about a vague legend rewritten several times, but I hated Excalibur...

I loved it. If you liked the 13th Warrior, you should like it.

It's the supporting cast and their portrayal of the other knights that gave resonance for me, Tristan in particular was fascinating.
