Hi Duanawitch and DFwesch, welcome to sffworld.com.

There's lots to read here and lots of really nice people. I hope you like it.

--Ex.

I came across this board through Alison Croggons website (and liked what I saw).
Okay quickish summary of me. I'm 17 and in my final year of school in the obscure Australian state of Tasmania. (Yes Tasmania - just get the two heads remarks out of the way now please ;)). I'm very much a humanities orientated student - I'm studying Australian History, Drama, Psychology, Religion and Philosophy and English Writing. My dream is to become a writer but otherwise I'd be perfectly happy studying history for the rest of my life :) I'm an agonistic progressive who seems to have ended up being one of the only straight ones in a tribe of gay, lesbian and bisexual friends :) Don't ask me how that works ;) I like history, politics, tae-kwon-do, cricket and my favourite things include Buffy, Wire in the Blood, West Wing, Red Dwarf, Blackadder and the Lord of the Rings films. As for reading for me my favourite authors would have to be Tolkien, Jacqueline Carey, Alison Croggon, Terry Pratchett, Tamora Pierce and Isobelle Carmody. I am looking foward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome Melliyna; I think you will enjoy it here, there's lot's of nice people, and a few like me.

I know what you mean about not exactly fitting into your "tribe". In college I used to hang out with more than a few straight laced, military types. I had hair down to my shoulders and wouldn't call anyone "sir" to save my life. Go figure.

Feel free to roam about the place. If you get into trouble, just raise up your head and yell, "Hey Moderator!"

Oh, and hi to the rest of you too. I don't visit this thread often. :o

Hi Melliyna :) I love your name! I haven't been here very long myself (see above in fact ;) ), but I'm already addicted. Be prepared for a swiftly growing books-to-read pile!

Welcome melliyna :D

They're interesting subjects you chose. I'm taking some similar ones this year.

Have fun :D

Hi Melliyna,

Welcome to SFFWorlds.com, very glad you found us. We're usually very friendly here. Haven't a clue about the 'two heads' and could care less.

Hope you stay!

Welcome to the site, melliyna. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Also, you might want to check out the funzone as well, but you'll have to register again. In the mean time, have fun.

Greetings to you, Melliyna, one day you'll have to share with us the source of your pretty name. Glad to have another Jacqueline Carey fan aboard!

Welcome Melliyna, glad to see another West Wing Fan. Have no idea about the 'two heads' business. The only sillyness about Tasmania I know is the Loony Tunes Cartoon Tasmanian Devil.

I saw a documentary on Tasmania once, but don't remember a lot, except you're on an island at the bottom of Australia right ? And the devil might be based on some dog-like thing that went extinct a while ago (early 1900s), as did all the original inhabitants of Tasmania.

Well, actualy The 'Tassie Devil' cartoon is based on the Tasmanian Devil (it's a small black carnivorous animal, called a Devil because of its call or whatever you call it) and the dog-like thing you're refering to is called the Tasmanian Tiger.
Ah, the good old two heads joke, we have a similar one up here in Queensland for people from a little town called Gympie (oh the horror, the horror). I think the two heads thing is based around in-breeding, that sort of thing you know.

Hi Melliyna, can't wait to get chatting over at Alison's forum and everywhere in between :D.

Hi - everyone thanks for the lovely greetings :). Yes - it's an inbreeding thing - something to do with Tasmania being an island. I'm thinking joining up might have been a bad move for my studying - I've got so many books that must be read already and now there will be more. Bugger - that means less time studying. Which is actually really good ;) :)

Hey Melliyna, welcome. Always good to see us Aussies continue our takeover of the boards. :)

I've certainly heard all the Tasmanian jokes, but have you noticed how many people now see Tassie as the premium Aust holiday spot? I've only been to Hobart, Launceston and a couple of little places in between, and that was for work, but I'm keen to go back to one of the most compactly beautiful places on earth.

It could be worse, you could live in Canberra. ;)

A Big Hello To One And All

A new member here. Everything you need to know about me is in my profile.

Hello John, I am a new member here too.. welcome to the boards!

Is there an "introduce yourself" type thread? Maybe this could be the catalyst for one.

Let me go first:

Name: Luke

Country: Australia
Do you like SF/Fantasy/Horror: I mainly like fantasy and horror (in that order), followed by a little bit of SF, especially cyberpunk.

Favourite Series: I am a relative newcomer to the world of fantasy literature. My favourites thus far have been the original Dragonlance series, A Song of Fire and Ice, and as pure escapism: The Black Company

Other Interests: MUSIC! I play bass guitar in a blues/punk rock band

Job: I am currently in my final year of study and at the end of the year will be a qualified primary school teacher.

Well folks, we've been moderated again.

Welcome, hope you two like it here. (someone who actually has info in the profile  ) Feel free to walk about the place.

More

I've been reading fantasy literature for a long time. The first adult fantasy I got was the works of William Hope Hodgson, though I'd read Lewis Carroll before then. I more or less started reading science fiction with Edgar Rice Burroughs' THE GODS OF MARS.

Hello!
:D :D
I prefer fantasy, haven't found science fiction appealing (however, I am not the most open-minded person, and haven't the longest of attention spans).
Pretty much the only genre I read (Again, not so open-minded) apart from classics.
