There are some science-fiction classics--H.G. Wells' WAR OF THE WORLDS, Jules Verne's 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's THE MARACOT DEEP, Robert Louis Stevenson's DR. JECKYLL AND MR. HYDE.

Long time SF/Fantasy Lover!

Hello! I have been reading, playing and loving Science Fiction and Fantasy ever since I was 8. The first fantasy book I can remember reading was The Indian in the Cupboard. The first pure fantasy book I can remember was the Hobbit, and I still remember putting it down about halfway through because I couldn't appreciate it at the time. My collection now has over 500 books, and boxes of comics (although now I can only read the more mature books, like 100 Bullets) My favorite author of all time is a tie between Robin Hobb and Tad Williams, but favorite series is hands down Otherland.

Welcome, Reader!

Ah, OTHERLAND, those people sure did get themselves into some alternate realities, didn't they?

Just here myself, but welcome to the list since...and before: Ravenfire, LadyElf, northerain, Kingma. And thanks to all those here extending their welcome.

Musing of a Writer Wannabee

My name is Soorim(which roughly translates to Sylvia), I live in Korea, and I am very interested in fantasy writing.

My favourite fantasy writer is Michael Ende, and my favourite fantasy is His Dark Materials, though I also liked Susan Cooper`s The Dark Is Rising. My favourite fantsy film is Mononoke Hime, and my favourite movie director is Miyazaki.(I do not know his first name)

I am currently writing a fantasy composed of five books, and I am trying to make my world unique. My writing is influenced too much by Tolkien, since he is the first writer whose work I read in English. However, I think that with work, I could get out of his influence.

As a writer wannabee, I want to read and learn as much as I can.

(to be continued:I have no time now)

Newbie Here ...

I'm new to this forum as well. Just started yesterday, actually. And Coldmist? MIYAZAKI IS AWESOME!!! I've seen Spirited Away, Castle on a Cloud and Princess Mononoke recently and I loved them all!!! And since you seem to love fantasy a lot (like most of us here- His Dark Materials is so cool) and Jap anime, maybe you could start writing in a style combining them two? Now THAT would be interesting ... anime and fantasy with maybe a touch of sci-fi ... that could work. Or maybe I'm just delusional ... Yeah, that must be it. :D

Hey gang,

Veteran Fantasy reader here. Looking forward to the ensuing chaos of being a regular poster on this site!

Hi, I'm new. I love sci-fi and fantasy and I'm currently working on a fantasy series, of which I have self-published the first book. I've rewritten it and changed the title, though, and maybe my ideas for the rest of the series are a bit grandiose. We shall see.

I have to admit that the "Lord of the Rings" was the story that first drew me to fantasy, but I was very young and have read so much more since. Cheers to all of you who try to expand the conventions of fantasy. You all seem to have great ideas and good work here. I hope I'll fit.

Coldmist: I thought Princess Monoke was great movie and a beautiful fantasy story.

I do try, Dude. I do try. :D

Thanks for the welcome. And Eldanuumea, too: thank you. I like what I've gotten myself into so far.
