And it's nice to now that someone younger than me even hangs around these parts.

It's strange how reassuring it is to know you're not the youngest person present, or at least not the only one of your age... Not that being the youngest can't be amusing, since you can play baby.

Though I'll admit, finding out that someone's over three decades older than you after you correct her grammar can be rather embarrassing.

And Misti, note the winky. ;)

Winky was noted, warlord—my sense of humor is weird. :)

Perhaps I should've mentioned that, sorry.

Is it? I don't have experience in such things. ;)

Greetings,

I originally registered here a few months ago but never took the time to introduce myself. Nor post much, really.

I'm a young male, hailing from the old city of Lutetia; or not far from it, more accurately. Reading, photography and playing the guitar number among my passtimes, but I seem to spend most of my free time doing neither which is very frustrating indeed. My favourite genres seem to be fantasy and scifi, but I'm open to pretty much everything.

Having recently experienced a 'reading drought', I'm forever buying new books that I certainly won't be able to read anytime soon. I thrive off recommendations, and am looking forward to sitting around and listening to all you fantasy & scifi buffs discussing books I haven't read yet, but which will certainly make more holes in my wallet in the near future :)

Cheers,

- C

On a more serious note, this looks like a great place.

Hey! I am new here and I love fantasy! I have read R.A. Salvatore, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Terry Brooks, David Farland, David Eddings and others! I run my own forum and this place looks great! Hope to have fun here!

Oh ya I love dwarves!

Greetings

Hello, everyone. I thought I'd find a scifi/fantasy forum to waste my spare time in at work. This looks like a pretty active forum. I look forward to finding my way around.

Hi FuzzBunneh, Thorin (nice name!), and pixter! Welcome. This place is great. I joined it something like 4 years ago, which is nearly impossible for me to believe.

This place helped me discover some of my favorite authors today (Robin Hobb being a great example), and steered me away from some bad books I was thinking about reading.

Beware, it can be addictive! I used to get busted at work all the time, reading messages on sffworld instead of doing what I was being paid for! :D

I've only been checking out the forums for a couple of days and my Amazon wishlist is already twice as long as it was before ;)

Hi, i'm a big sci-fi/fantasy fan. although i'll read just about anything if it's well written. I love fun stuff - Terry prattchett, DAAdams, Piers Anthony, and sometimes more serious stuff- Sherri S Tepper, Frank Herbert, A Huxley. I'm also a film buff. I'm currently a student, housewife (ok, housedaughter) and a mom. Because i get busy i like to sometimes veg out with really bad sci fi, some faves are flash gordon and conan.
Not much more to say at this time, so i'll catch ya on the flip side.

I've been posting here for a few months and just saw the intro thread. I'm a nearly 40-something year old with two small children and an engineer hubby who isn't much of a reader outside of books concerning his profession. Most of my reading is done in stolen moments here and there, with lots of interruptions. I was an avid reader as a child; an obligated and often overwhelmed reader as a student in college; and a nearly defunct reader as a young adult thrown into the turmoil of the world with a Classical Studies degree that I had no ambition to do anything with. I ended up serving myself up as plankton as a secretary to executives for Fortune 500 companies. Lo and behold, as the years went by and my reading drought continued, I realized not only had the ship sailed, but it was clear across the world, and I better do something about it before my brain flatlined. I always wanted to read more Science Fiction and Fantasy when I was younger, but never got around to it. Now, I finally am, and I feel years and years behind in my reading, but sites like this help give me good ideas about what to read. My husband recently built me a new bookshelf, and it is already full.

Welcome to sffworld Raule. I'm in a similar situation to you--I have two kids, read a lot when I was a kid myself, but stalled for a while in highschool and university (when I didn't have time for pleasure reading). I've really just got back into reading in a big way the past 5 years or so.

Reading is a wonderful way to keep your brain from turning to mush when the daily grind is unstimulating. (I too worked as a secretary for a couple of years, it was the most boring job I could imagine and I kept from going crazy by tucking a book next to my computer and reading when the boss wasn't watching!).

I'm sure you'll find sffworld to be a valuable resource in figuring out what to read next. It's also fun to discuss the books you've already read with others. Congratulations on the new bookshelf, by the way! I'm in the process right now of convincing my husband I need a new shelf too! :)

Hey all. Been hanging around and making a few posts every now and then for a while now, but hopefully I'll be becoming a more dedicated future in the time to come. As you probably guessed, my name is Brahm. I love fantasy (especially hisotrically themed fantasy), with some of my favourite authors being George RR Martin (of course), R. Scott Bakker and Guy Gavriel Kay. I also read quite a lot of history (particularly Ancient Roman history, but I also enjoy ancient-Byzantine Greek history and Medieval History), and some sci fi and historical fiction. Besides reading, I listen to a shitload of music (mainly thrash metal, power metal, traditional metal and progressive rock) and play guitar. Rock on, all.

Greetings and Salutations!

Allo, allo. Avi Morgan here - the one, the only, the self-proclaimed psychotic genius; the confusing teenager who could pass for 21 too easily for her own good; but most importantly, the one who made peace with the voices in her head.

I've been writing stories and creating worlds for as long as I can remember. I grew up on star wars, weapons and Dr. Seuss. When I was 8, I abruptly threw down the Dr. Seuss books (which are classics IMO =) and tackled an 800-page King Arthur book, followed by the LotR trilogy in a matter of mere weeks. I have since then been an avid reader of fantasy. My uncle taught me to wield a sword, and gave me lessons on the use of many other weapons and many martial arts styles, and, bless him, he taught me how to pronounce "Drizzt Do'Urden".

I've just started working with one Charlie de la Vega - a college student, writer, and good friend of mine - on a huge project and I hope that by next year the first book in the project's series might be published. It was just what I needed to get me back into the habit of writing - School has a way of distracting people. Any way, I was searching for something (I can't actually remember now what it was) when I found this site and decided to register. I've been reading around a few days now and here I am finally posting. Of course I did have a little problem with email - probably due to the evil warlock who lives in my air conditioner and likes to torment me and my imaginary friends. ANY WAY! Enough about that! I hope that maybe this will be one place that won't kick me out for not "dissapearing into the crowd" as Charlie puts it.

sup guys! I'm 19 and I'm an Aussie, originally from a crappy little town in Queensland which i won't bother mentioning................
But currently residing in Brisbane (also qld for those who dont know)... ummm, feeling very un-creative tonight unfortunately, and i'm pretty much just using this to procrastinate on writing an assignment so i guess i should probly go and do that as its getting late, but that is a little bit about me (a VERY little bit) If you got any q's bout Aus, shoot, not an overly interesting place however but it suits me fine! Hope to see you in the forums
