cheers, unfortunatley i happen to live in the worst part of yorkshire; Hull, which is annoyingly shiny at the moment, particulary straight onto my monitor!

Paladin of Curmudgeonry

Hello, I live in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA. It's a dumb place for a person like myself. We don't even have a bookstore, so I get most of my reading by ordering online and bookclubs.

I'm a published author of sorts. I started out in the late 1970s and early 80s selling to magazines, then moved into journalism and New Age editorial for fifteen years, went back to college for a degree in anthropology when my daughter was eleven (She'll be 23 in a few days), and finally decided to try my hand at fiction again. But the market is impossible these days, and I wound up in ebook.

Hello, I'm new, but I'm not very shiny. I'm unshaven, and gray is beginning to appear at my temples. For a new thing, I'm not so hot. If I were old, I'd be pretty good, but as new, I'm a terrible dissappointment.

I find mirrors frightening, or at least too critical.

I'm glad to find this site, though. I've been looking for a place and people to talk about books, though I've been lax in my book reading recently. I want to get back into the game, so to speak.

I am not overly familiar with any of the new great Sci-Fi authors, and I'm sure there must be some. I know most of the old names, but few of the new.

I've been playing catch up over the past couple of years. Between the juggling act of study intensive reading while getting my degree at the same time that I was holding down a job and raising a kid my reading for pleasure fell by the wayside. But then chatroom friends and messageboards like this one have been a great opportunity to acquire a must read list.

I currently have a to be read pile that includes Tanya Huff, Terry McGarry, Charlaine Harris, Sara Douglass, and Terry Prachett, and John Saul.

Hi I'm New Here

Hello.
My name is Adam. I go by a lot of other names too, not all of them nice. ;)
I'm going to be sixteen in a few days, and I like to read books. Fantasy novels, mostly. I love anything by J.R.R. Tolkien (who doesn't?), J.K. Rowling (again), Terry Pratchett (best satirist this side of Discworld- everyone in my family reads and enjoys his books), Tad Williams (an author who doesn't get the recognition he deserves), Christopher Paolini (Trash, I know, but his books have an inexplicable appeal), and George R.R. Martin (some of the best stuff I've ever read).
I hope you find my company pleasant, and I hope I find yours the same.
Happy New Year!

Awesome book. It's the book I keep by my bed, and the one I reference when I need a little help with life.
Tad Williams is awesome. Every book he's ever written is pretty good, except Tailchaser's Song, which I didn't care much for.

i dunno. i don't like his new stuff that much, and don't like dragon bone chair that much either now! did read it first 15 years or something ago. so my tastes have changed a lot

Greetings to all of our newest friends!
I've been sort of invisible for a while......lots of real life stuff drawing my attention away. But I hope to begin showing up more often, again.

I am looking forward to getting to know the newbies on the block..... ;) :D

alo...

alo all... i also bring the smell of new car!!!

it's a nice change to have a thread which is there for the sake of it, don't you think... no agenda apart from saying hi!

oh how philosophical of me (not!)

hope you guys enjoy this site as much as me... it's amazing how books just get better when you share your opinions and theories about them, even with people who have a complete opposing view!

and yes i play rugby and also read... it is possible i assure you ;)

maverikk out

A desperate question about The Last Chronicles

Hi - I'm a total newbie and have managed to log on to ask a simple question as I have not been able to to so anywhere else....!!!

Does anybody have the slightest idea when Stephem Donaldson's Book 2 'Fatal Revenant' of the Last Chronicles is due to come out? It's a crazy thing waiting for the next installment and having no idea when I'll possibly see the light at the end of the tunnel...

Hi my name is Stephen.

I started to read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy around (ahem)20 years ago. I can remember the authors and the books - Tolkien, Wolfe, Gemmel, Donaldson, Moorcock, Eddings, Dick etc. all the usual. Plot details and characters are hazy though.

Then I got married and didnt touch a book for 10 years. Im now single again and suddenly have time to read again and suprisingly im really enjoying it. Anyway I found the site while looking for recommendations and picked up the Farseer Trilogy. Now looking forward to reading the rest of series and lots more.

Is there an age thread anwhere? I sometimes cant help thinking im a little old to be reading fantasy but one of the reasons I stopped reading before was moving on to more "adult" real world setting novels which bored me to death.

Anyway thanks for the recommendations so far, I will stick around.
