I just watched Nowhere Boy last night, the film about John Lennon's teenage years. I thought it was quite good, which is high praise considering that I'm a die-hard Beatles and Lennon fan. I recently read his biography, and the film was quite accurate in most respects (although I think they slightly played up the sexual tension between John and his mother).

Also, I was totally surprised when I realized that John was played by the kid from Kick-Ass.
 
I'a also a Beatles groupie. I recently [last month] re-watched "A Hard Days Night" with all the bonuses from Criterion: great stuff.

today: "Winter's Bone" - a drama set in the Ozarks. One of the best indies I've seen this year, I hope it gets at least an Oscar nomination. [*****]

I've also had a lot of fun this week with "Wild Target" - a British hitman comedy with Bill Nighy and a lovely Emily Blunt. Silly really, not to be taken seriously. My hope for this one is that it will not be remade for an American audience like "Death at a Funeral". [****]
 
Hellboy: Blood & Iron.

Eh. Sadly, it wasn't as good as Sword of Storms, not by a long shot. The animation seemed worse, there were a lot of problems (Such as someone's hand being red when held by Hellboy), one of the worst being the terrible audio sync. Things happened before you saw them (It was a second difference at most, but still noticeable) and you saw lips moving after they'd stoped talking. The audio also seemed to have been "balanced" badly, too. Fight scenes tended to be a lot louder than they should have been.

All the characters, oddly, seemed as if they'd been sidelined, especially Abe and Liz, but even Hellboy seemed to be there just to pack a few punches. The story wasn't that good, either.
 
The Lovely Bones, I really liked it. Some very evocative cinematography and an excellently creepy bad guy by Stanley Tucci. The girl playing Susie Salmon was wonderful and she had the most fabulous blue eyes.

Have not read the book but it is on my TBR pile.
 
You shouldn't call Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves "the Kevin Costner Robin Hood." You should call it "the Alan Rickman Robin Hood," because he is so freaking over-the-top awesome in that movie.

I agree with Dwaggins about Hellboy: Blood and Iron. It's okay, I guess, but nowhere near as good as Sword of Storms.

Last night I watched The Fearless Vampire Killers (or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck) and laughed nonstop for 110 minutes. Professor Abronsius FTW
 
I love The Fearless Vampire Killers. The Firemen's Ball is even better.

Now I'm re-watching Nuovo Cinema Paradiso by Giusseppe Tornatore.
 
I watched Inception of Leonardo DiCaprio. I think this the movie loved by almost all the people. I was also crazy about it. Great movie!
 
South Korea was running a Steven Seagal marathon. They went from mediocre to worse with each new movie. Still had a blast watching them but that is what I was watching last.
 
Saw The Social Network. Very good movie. I'd rate it the best I've seen this year so far. Liberties were taken to increase dramatic effect and it is based on a controversial book that is more of a revenge piece, but the movie is compelling pseudo-docudrama. Great performances all around including Timberlake.
 
Just watched Carnival of Souls. A favorite of mine ever since I first saw it as a kid. My aunt would let me sneak and stay up with her late and watch scary movies. Fun times. [:
 
Scott Pilgrim vs The World [****] . I had a good time despite being annoyed in the beginning by Michael Cera antics, which are getting rather old. It helps to have a solid gaming backgrouind ;) . Being a fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz clearly helped me appreciate this.
 
The Losers - loved it right up until it finished way too early. Knew the story from the comic so perhaps expecting a bit too much but still felt like a film that ran out of budget and was chopped off at the knees.
 
Zombieland (behind the times again :o).

Great fun. Not a classic but well worth the fiver I paid for it. Emma Stone is unfeasibly gorgeous.
 
The Goonies: instant classic :)
I've missed it when it first came out in theaters and somehow never got to catch on TV. Oh, well better late than never.

Great movie chuff. Woody Harrelson cracks me up. Zombie kill of the week cracked me up. And the never ending search for a twinkie. Fun movie :)

That really disappoints me as there are very few English movies coming to Korea this Winter, Skyline being one of them. I was hoping for at least something decent.
