Where?

Would I do that Dennizm? I'm shocked. Truly shocked that you would think that.

Well, I'm halfway through a temporary relocation.
I'm in Chile for work. Nice country, although not speaking spanish is a pain. Not reading spanish makes the local bookstore somewhat ineffective as well. Lucky I bought my copies of A Song of Ice and Fire to reread. You pick up a lot of stuff the second time.

Just found this board yesterday. I'm from Oklahoma, USA. Born an American army brat in Gelnhausen, Germany to German mother.

Beers prefered:

Guinness on tap
Dos Equis
Corona
Becks Dark
Shiner Bock

When in England, I like Lager and Lime once in a while.

Hard drink of choice, tequilla!

I read mainly Science Fiction, Fantasy (catching up, since I haven't read it in years) and a little bit of classic-based horror (No King or Koontz).

Nice to meet ya'll!

Susan

Greetings SusF. I think after reading your post, that you and Dennizm will get along splendidly...

Sorry Dennizm, I couldn't resist that one. Feel free to burn me in return anytime you feel the urge.

Oh, I should probably add, to keep in line with Giarc original post, that I live in Marysville, Washington.

Now, now, I don't need a matchmaker!

Though I DO know a terrific Irish pub in Ft. Worth that has the best Guiness on tap I've had in this country.

Susan

By the way i live in dull boring north Wales. Its pretty boring and full of thicko scallie laaaas.

Call me baffled beyond belief, but what the flying heck is a thicko scallie laaaas?

First dags now this...

Ya' get the WEIRDEST education around here.

You know, I don't think I've ever tried to make a match. Wouldn't it be easier to go buy a box? And in the long run, wouldn't a lighter be cheaper?
These are the many deep thoughts that keep me awake at night.
Like why do we call a place to drive your car a parkway but the place you park your car is the driveway...
And why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

I don't need a matchmaker either... I am already married to Susan... er what I mean is... I am not married to Susan, but I am married to... *ohhh foggedit*

Welcome Susan to our hallowed halls, I am sorry about that Carmichael... he is just a big romantic.

Yeah, gotta watch out for that Carmichael, he's a screwy one, he is.

Hey Carmichael, I thought the place you parked your car is called a car park or a road side

Be seeing ye.

SusF, pleased to meet you.

Can you explain one thing to me, what is the fascination that the World seems to have with Oirish pubs and indeed all things seemingly Oirish?

I can get Guinness on tap down at my local and I'll bet it tastes every bit as good as it would in deepest Ireland or America, is this Irish thing then some kind of American yearning?

Be seeing ye.

Take it from one who knows... you have never tasted Guinness like the Guinness you get in Ireland... okay, it is good everywhere else. But in Ireland, it is liquid steak!!

They know how to condition the kegs during storage.

Well now Woody, I did not go to this pub 'cause it was Irish. I went to the pub because friends of mine took me there. I liked the Guiness, because it was the first time I'd tried it and it didn't make me choke. The proprietor had gone to the Guiness brewery and learned how to store it and serve it properly.

Scottish pubs are nice, too. I've been to a few, in Dundee, Edinburgh, and Inverness. The blokes in Dundee were quite friendly...

Well, i don't have a car (
frown.gif
) but if i did, i would park it in my 'drive'. Short for driveway, which originally would have been the long sweep of private road running from the public road ('highway' for the strangely foreign) to the front of my manor house in the country (!) which i would 'drive' up to get to aforesaid house. Now, everyone just has a scanky little bit of ground in front of their itty bitty house, that they drive their car onto, but isn't long enough to drive along, before they park.

However. What the ???? is a 'parkway'?

Sammie

I'm sorry folks, but I just cannot subscribe to this "Guinness is best in Ireland" stuff. It's like saying that whisky is best drank in Scotland or that vodka just has to be consumed in Russia to be appreciated.

Your'e all falling prey to the romantic notion of the adverts etc. showing us the rolling hills, the flame haired maidens and the lovely isolated village with the o-so friendly locals. I'll admit this sounds like a great place to have a drink, but "Guiness is best in Ireland"..................................nah rubbish!!

Be seeing ye.

Carmichael... another sheep secret dragged out of me (the flock is gonna come down on me for all this idle gossip):
